Span underwent surgery for a sports hernia in December and then needed a followup procedure for a core muscle injury in early March. The initial timetable called for him to be sidelined until sometime in May, but the 31-year-old had a smooth second rehab. He’s batting leadoff for the Nats on Sunday against the Phillies.
Taylor hit .271/.314/.500 with two home runs and eight RBI in his two weeks as Washington’s fill-in center fielder. The 24-year-old prospect is now better off getting regular playing time at Triple-A Syracuse.
