This is never good. From CSNNE.com:
Reliever Brandon Workman, who had been placed on the 7-day disabled list by the Pawtucket Red Sox last Saturday because of a right elbow strain, is getting a second opinion on the injury. It was originally thought he wouldn’t need surgery . . . but now we’ll see what Dr. Andrews has to say. He also has been moved to the major-league 15-day DL.
Workman is with Pawtucket right now, but the idea was that he’d be one of the first men up to Boston if and when they need fresh blood in the pen. The blood may be fresh, but the elbow is not.
Workman made 15 starts and four relief appearances for the Sox last season, finishing with a 1-10 record, a 5.17 ERA, and a 70/36 K/BB ratio in 87 innings.
