Henderson Alvarez is having an MRI on his right elbow

Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez was on the hook for four runs in five innings en route to his second loss of the season Sunday against the Rays. The news got worse after the game. Per Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, Alvarez is undergoing an MRI on his right elbow.

Elbow injuries haven’t been a major issue in the past for Alvarez, but they always have the potential to be serious, perhaps season-ending. Alvarez is the ace of the Marlins’ staff after finishing the 2014 season with a 2.65 ERA with a 111/33 K/BB ratio in 187 innings.
