Jorge De La Rosa likely to open season on disabled list

Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa has been bothered by groin discomfort for much of spring training and he was officially diagnosed with a left groin strain after leaving his Cactus League debut last Friday.

Now the Rockies are acknowledging the inevitable.

“Other than playing catch right now, he’s pretty much shut down,” manager Walt Weiss old the Denver Post on Tuesday before admitting that it’s “starting to look” like De La Rosa will have to be placed on the 15-day disabled list when the team breaks camp.

De La Rosa had been penciled in for the Rockies’ home opener, but that no longer seems realistic.

Kyle Kendrick will start for the Rockies on Opening Day in Milwaukee.
