Sonny Gray named Opening Day starter by the A’s

A’s manager Bob Melvin announced that right-hander Sonny Gray will get the Opening Day start, which is no surprise. Gray followed up his impressive 2013 debut by throwing 219 innings with a 3.08 ERA and 183/74 K/BB ratio in 33 starts last season at age 24.

It’ll be his second straight Opening Day start and he’ll likely be followed in the No. 2 spot by left-hander Scott Kazmir, but Melvin declined to lay out any further plans for the A’s rotation.
