Rays pitcher Alex Colome “out indefinitely” with pneumonia

Rays right-hander Alex Colome, who has a good chance to crack the Opening Day rotation after impressing down the stretch last season, is now “out indefinitely” after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

Colome’s arrival to spring training was delayed until now by visa issues, so he’s going to be very far behind the other pitchers whenever he’s cleared to resume throwing.

He has a 2.50 ERA and 25/19 K/BB ratio in 40 innings for the Rays through age 25 and posted solid numbers in the minors despite shaky control and a PED suspension, cracking Baseball America’s top 100 prospects list back in 2010.
