Eric Young, Jr. is competing for the Braves’ starting job in center field as a result of Melvin Upton, Jr.’s foot injury. Young made a statement on Saturday afternoon against the Mets, making a diving grab in the bottom of the seventh inning to rob Wilfredo Tovar of a hit.

Young is competing against Eury Perez and Aaron Cunningham for the privilege of patrolling center field at Turner Field. Last season with the Mets, the 29-year-old hit .229/.299/.311 with 30 stolen bases.
