As first reported by MLB.com beat writer Bryan Hoch, Yankees prospect Luis Torrens is scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a torn labrum in his right (throwing) shoulder. The expectation is that he will have to sit out the entire 2015 season.
The 18-year-old Venezuelan catcher has batted just .249/.338/.347 with four home runs in 107 professional games between rookie ball and Low-A, but he’s regarded as a good defender behind the plate with a very strong throwing arm.
