According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, Dodgers right-hander Zack Greinke received a “lubricating injection” in his elbow on Thursday and will be shut down from throwing for a few days.
Before you panic, Dodger fans, just know that it’s being called a precautionary measure. In fact, Greinke has received the same injection in his previous two springs with the club. It’s worth noting that he got a late start in 2013 due to elbow issues, but there’s nothing to suggest that he’s facing something similar this time around. He still has plenty of time to get ready for the season.
Greinke, 31, owns a 2.68 ERA across 60 starts over his first two seasons with the Dodgers. He has the ability to opt out of his contract (and walk away from $71 million from 2016-2018) after 2015 and he’ll almost certainly do it if he can stay healthy and put up similar numbers this season.
