Roberto Hernandez will be late to Astros’ camp due to visa issues

Pitcher Roberto Hernandez is still in the Dominican Republic and will be late to attend Astros’ camp due to visa issues, per a report from’s Brian McTaggart. Hernandez has already thrown a bullpen in the D.R. in preparation.

Hernandez, 34, signed a minor league deal with the Astros last week. He’ll compete for a job in the starting rotation. If he makes the major league roster, whether as a starter or a swing man, he’ll earn a salary of $2.65 million.

The veteran right-hander had a bounce-back season with the Phillies, posting a 3.87 ERA over 121 innings before going to the Dodgers in an early August trade.
