Derek Jeter was the face of the Yankees — and probably the face of Major League Baseball — for a long and hugely successful period, but he plans to take a break from all that now that he’s retired.
Jeter, 40, was asked Saturday whether he’ll attend the Yankees’ 2015 season-opener on April 6 against the Blue Jays. His response: “I think actually I’ll be out of the country. I need to get away. I’ve been playing this game professionally for parts of 23 seasons, so I need to get away from it.”
And good for him.
