Rich Dubroff of CSNBaltimore.com brings word that the Orioles have signed veteran left-hander Mark Hendrickson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Hendrickson, who is actually a grandpa these days, turned 40 last June and hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2011 as a member of the Orioles. The 6-foot-9 southpaw switched to a sidearm delivery at the advice of Buck Showalter in 2013 and spent last season pitching for the York Revolution of the independent Atlantic League where he posted a 1.54 ERA and 34/11 K/BB ratio over 52 2/3 innings.
This might be Hendrickson’s last shot to show what he can do, so it should be an interesting story to follow this spring. He’s had a pretty fascinating career as an athlete, including a stint in the NBA from 1996-2000.
