Rob Manfred, new Major League Baseball commissioner, suggests ban on defensive shifts


Rob Manfred has officially been reigned in as the new commissioner of Major League Baseball and he said something controversial in a sit-down interview this weekend with ESPN’s Karl Ravech …

Defensive shifts are largely used against pull hitters, so banning them would actually give those hitters an advantage. And how would a ban on shifts even be implemented? By confining players to designated fielding zones? It doesn’t sound like the new commish put a whole lot of research into this suggestion.
