Rangers infielder Jurickson Profar has been cleared to begin a throwing program the week of January 19, Anthony Andro of FOX Sports Southwest reports. Profar suffered a torn teres major muscle in his right shoulder in spring training last year.
Profar, 22 in February, was a consensus #1 overall prospect entering the 2013 season. In 324 plate appearances at the big league level that season, Profar finished with a .644 OPS in 324 plate appearances.
The Rangers are expected to bring Profar along slowly during the spring and he’ll likely start the season in the minors.
