Yankees prospect Ty Hensley hospitalized after a “brutal attack”

UPDATE: Cotillo reports that Hensley suffered “multiple facial fractures, including to his jaw, as well as multiple other head injuries.” He further reports that charges in the attack have been filed against Anthony Morales, a 24-year old who played football at Weber State and who was cut by the Carolina Panthers during training camp.

12:30 PM: This is absolutely awful. Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports that Yankees 2012 first round draft pick Ty Hensley was injured in a “brutal attack” over the holidays. He passes on the statement from Hensley’s attorney, which reads in part:

On behalf of Ty Hensley and his family, we are able to confirm that Ty was hospitalized after being brutally attacked and assaulted over the holidays in Oklahoma City.

Ty was treated and released from the hospital and is presently recovering at home from the injuries he sustained after being knocked unconscious in this vicious attack.  Ty and his family are grateful for all of the support, thoughts, and prayers he’s received from friends, fans, and well-wishers. We respectfully request privacy during this difficult time.

It’s good that he was treated and released. Here’s hoping he didn’t suffer a concussion or psychological damage from this.

Hensley pitched in two levels in 2014 following a year off following hip surgery. This year will likely prove critical for him in his development as a prospect.
