Delino DeShields chooses Reds’ Triple-A manager job over Twins’ first base coach job

The Reds announced today that former major leaguer Delino DeShields has been hired as the new manager with Triple-A Louisville. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, DeShields ultimately opted to add to his managerial resume rather than leave the organization to accept the first base coach job with the Twins.

DeShields, who played 13 seasons in the majors, was the manager of the Reds’ Double-A affiliate in Pensacola this past season. His promotion comes after Triple-A manager (and former Nationals manager) Jim Riggleman was named as the new third base coach with the Reds.

On a related note, the Twins announced today that Butch Davis has been hired as first base coach, officially completing the staff of new manager Paul Molitor. Davis has spent the last 20 years as a coach in the Orioles organization.
