The trade between the Athletics and Blue Jays involving Josh Donaldson and Brett Lawrie has been made official. MLB.com’s Jane Lee reports that the A’s have made a couple of additional roster maneuvers, designating outfielder Kyle Blanks and pitcher Josh Lindblom for assignment.
The Athletics acquired Blanks, 28, in a trade with the Padres in May, sending Jake Goebbert and Ronald Herrera to San Diego. In 56 plate appearances with the A’s, Blanks hit .333/.446/.489 but suffered from tendinitis in his left Achilles, keeping him out between late June and mid-August. He returned for seven games with Triple-A Sacramento before ending his season.
Lindblom, 27, joined the A’s last December in a trade with the Rangers involving Craig Gentry. Lindblom made only one start at the big league level for the A’s, allowing two runs in 4 2/3 innings. In 84 innings over 16 starts and one relief appearance with Triple-A Sacramento, the right-hander posted a 5.79 ERA with a 60/26 K/BB ratio.
