Red Sox announce four-year, $88 million deal with Hanley Ramirez, DFA Juan Francisco

From beat writer Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal

FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported Monday afternoon that Hanley had agreed to a four-year, $88 million contract with a $22 million vesting option for 2019. He has never played left field, but it’s one of the least-demanding defensive positions in baseball and it’s made even easier at Fenway Park because of the Green Monster. It has been a busy Tuesday for the Red Sox, who also hosted an introductory press conference at Fenway for third baseman Pablo Sandoval and his five-year, $98 million deal (with a club option for 2020).

Juan Francisco was picked up on a November 19 waiver claim from the Blue Jays and looked poised to get a share of the playing time at the hot corner for Boston in 2015, but his stay lasted all of seven days.
