If the Red Sox had their way, they’d get both free agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval and shortstop Hanley Ramirez, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. It’s been widely reported that the Red Sox have a great deal of interest in Sandoval, but they have remained in contact with Ramirez since the GM meetings and are believed to be progressing towards an agreement, according to Heyman. That notion is backed up by WEEI’s Alex Speier.
Sandoval is expected to make a decision next week. He has already received offers from the Padres and Red Sox in the area of five years and $95 million. The Giants have yet to submit a final offer, per Jim Bowden.
The Blue Jays, Mariners, and Astros have been linked to Ramirez within the last two weeks but it was more along the lines of due diligence as opposed to active pursuit.
