Depending on how the free agent market pans out, the Orioles and Giants could eventually come around on free agent outfielder Torii Hunter, ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick reports. The Royals, Twins, and Blue Jays have also been linked to Hunter recently, but no one’s been trying to break his door down with a battering ram, obviously. The Twins appear to have the best shot at landing Hunter, per LaVelle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune.
Hunter, 39, waffled on retiring shortly after the Tigers were nudged out of the playoffs by the Orioles. Though his numbers were decent — he batted .286/.319/.446 with 17 home runs and 83 RBI in 586 plate appearances — his OPS+ (which is OPS adjusted for league and park factors) declined for a second consecutive season, from 129 to 115 to 111.
