White Sox claim Onelki Garcia off waivers from the Dodgers

The White Sox claimed pitcher Onelki Garcia off waivers from the Dodgers, Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times reports. The Dodgers likely would have preferred to keep Garcia if possible, but that would have meant making a spot for him on the 40-man roster.

Garcia, 25, underwent surgery to remove bone spurs in his left elbow in November 2013, then had knee surgery this past January. Both surgeries kept him out of action for nearly the entirety of the 2014 season.

Garcia had a brief cup of coffee with the Dodgers in September 2013, logging 1 1/3 innings. He spent the bulk of his season with Double-A Chattanooga, posting a 2.75 ERA with a 53/32 K/BB ratio over 52 1/3 innings.
