Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald has the news:
According to a source, the Marlins have made a two-year, $20 million offer to free agent first baseman Adam LaRoche, who hit .259 with 26 homers and 92 RBI for Washington in 2014.
The Marlins just committed a record 13-year, $325 million contract to right fielder Giancarlo Stanton, but it’s a very back-loaded deal and they’ve actually freed up some money in the short term that Stanton otherwise would have earned through arbitration. So they’re able to do a bit of spending this winter, and LaRoche would be a pretty good fit.
Miami got a combined .258/.313/.410 batting line and 16 homers out of first base in 2014.
Garrett Jones would be the starter there for the Marlins if the 2015 season started today.
