Free agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval has landed in Boston to meet with the Red Sox, Joe Amorosino of 7News Boston reports. The Red Sox are one of several teams interested in Sandoval’s services, along with the Giants, Padres, Blue Jays, and White Sox.
The meeting is standard procedure, of course, so this doesn’t indicate that there’s anything imminent. The Red Sox, though, are likely the Giants’ biggest competition in their quest to retain their third baseman.
Sandoval, 28, is seeking a nine-figure deal after batting .279/.324/.415 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI this past season, helping lead the Giants to their third championship in five years.
