The Athletics have claimed outfielder Alex Hassan off waivers from the Red Sox, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The Red Sox selected Hassan in the 20th round of the 2009 draft.
Hassan, 26, made his major league debut on June 1, but spent almost all of his 2014 season with Triple-A Pawtucket. He batted a robust .287/.378/.426 with eight home runs and 55 RBI over 474 plate appearances. He has been at Triple-A in parts of each of the past three seasons and will likely be there again in 2015, serving as depth for the A’s.
