The Indians have talked to free agent pitcher Justin Masterson about coming back to Cleveland, Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer reports. The club parted with Masterson at the end of July, trading him to the Cardinals in exchange for minor league outfielder James Ramsey.
Masterson had a tough 2014 season. Combining his performances with the Indians and Cardinals, he finished with a 5.88 ERA and a 116/69 K/BB ratio in 128 2/3 innings. He battled through a knee injury, resulting in a 25-day stint on the disabled list between July 8 and August 2.
The Cubs and Red Sox have also been reported to have shown interest in Masterson. He is willing to sign a one-year deal in an attempt to reestablish his value.
