Dodgers officially announce hiring of Gabe Kapler and Billy Gasparino

Per the Dodgers on Twitter, the club has officially announced the hiring of former major leaguer Gabe Kapler as their Director of Player Development and Billy Gasparino as their Director of Amateur Scouting. The news comes as no surprise as there had been rumors for a few days and a report last night.

Kapler had been an analyst on FOX Sports 1, helping bring Sabermetrics to a mainstream audience. The Dodgers are creating an analytics-focused team in their front office under Andrew Friedman, their new President of Baseball Operations. Farhan Zaidi, the former Assistant to the General Manager and Director of Baseball Operations for the Athletics, was recently named the club’s general manager.

The Dodgers also have baseball’s biggest payroll, already on the hook for nearly $200 million as the off-season begins.
