Previewing tonight’s Fall Stars Game in the Arizona Fall League

Admit it, after a thrilling postseason, you are having trouble adjusting to life without baseball games. Me too. Fortunately, I have good news, as some of the game’s top prospects will gather tonight for the Fall Stars Game in the Arizona Fall League. The game, which will begin at 8 p.m. ET, will be shown on MLB Network and can be streamed live on

This is the ninth annual edition of this prospect showcase, which was previously known as the Rising Stars Game. We regularly see players from this game graduate to the majors in a hurry, so it’s a neat sneak preview. Jorge Soler of the Cubs and Mookie Betts of the Red Sox were among those who participated last year.

The Twins’ Byron Buxton was originally selected to participate in tonight’s game, but unfortunately he had to leave the Arizona Fall League due to a dislocated finger. Still, there’s plenty of talent to go around. The Indians’ Francisco Lindor is at the top of that list. The 20-year-old batted .276/.338/.389 with 11 home runs, 62 RBI, and 28 stolen bases over 126 games this season between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus. While he’s known as an excellent defender, he’ll serve as the designated hitter tonight so that fellow top prospect and Dodgers farmhand Corey Seager can play shortstop.

The Diamondbacks’ Archie Bradley is slated to start for the East team while the West team will go with right-hander Nick Howard, who was selected 19th overall by the Reds in this year’s First-Year Player Draft.

Below are the lineups for tonight’s game:

Fall Stars East: CF – Dalton Pompey (Blue Jays), LF – Eddie Rosario (Twins), SS – Matt Reynolds (Mets), 1B – Greg Bird (Yankees), RF – Brandon Nimmo (Mets), C – Peter O’Brien (Diamondbacks), 2B – Tony Renda (Nationals), 3B- Kaleb Stewart (Angels), DH – Josh Bell (Pirates)

Fall Stars West: DH – Francisco Lindor (Indians), CF – Tyrone Taylor (Brewers), SS – Corey Seager (Dodgers), RF – Steven Moya (Tigers), 3B – Hunter Dozier (Royals), LF – Nick Williams (Rangers), C – Mike Ohlman (Orioles), 2B – Daniel Castro (Braves), 1B – Patrick Leonard (Rays)

Doubleheader between Cardinals and Tigers postponed

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

A doubleheader between the St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers this week is being postponed to allow more time for additional COVID-19 testing.

MLB opted to postpone Thursday’s doubleheader to continue additional testing while players and staff are quarantined before the team returns to play. More details about the Cardinals’ resumption of play will be announced later this week.

The Cardinals had a series against Pittsburgh set to start on Monday postponed after a weekend series against the Cubs was scrapped due to three positive coronavirus tests.

St. Louis had two more players and a staff member test positive for the virus on Friday and have had eight positive players overall, including star catcher Yadier Molina.

There have now been 29 games postponed by Major League Baseball because of coronavirus concerns. The Cardinals have not played since July 30 and have had 15 games scrapped.

Miami and Philadelphia each had seven games postponed earlier and have returned to the field since the disruptions.
