Confirming reports from last night the Giants just revealed that tonight’s starter, Jake Peavy, suffered a bruised right thumb while trying to catch a foul ball in the dugout during Game 3.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy assured reporters that Peavy passed various physical exams and was able to throw a bullpen session to prepare for his Game 6 start against the Royals, but he will be pitching with a swollen thumb.

Peavy has a 7.05 ERA in eight postseason starts, including allowing four runs in five innings against Kansas City in Game 2.
