After giving up four runs in 2 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Royals in Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday night, Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong’s season may not be over just yet. Alex Pavlovic of the Mercury News reports that manager Bruce Bochy will use Vogelsong out of the bullpen in the remaining games of the World Series if necessary.
Vogelsong has not had the best post-season. Including Saturday’s start, he has a 7.15 ERA with a 7/5 K/BB ratio in 11 1/3 innings across three starts during the playoffs. Some would argue that he hasn’t really been hit all that hard, and Vogelsong has also shown an uptick in velocity. He averaged 90.5 MPH on his fastball during the regular season, but between 92.5-93.5 in his three playoff starts.
The 37-year-old can become a free agent after the World Series is over.
