Soon-to-be free agent Victor Martinez is expected to pursue a four-year deal in the off-season, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. The DH, who turns 36 in December, is likely seeking the final contract of his career.
Martinez is coming off of a fantastic season in which he hit .335/.409/.565 with 32 home runs and 103 RBI. His .409 on-base percentage led the American League and his .974 OPS was tops in all of baseball.
The Tigers are expected to extend Victor Martinez a qualifying offer, worth $15.3 million, but Martinez is expected to reject it, as has every free agent given a qualifying offer thus far.
