Twins expected to contact Joe Maddon about managerial vacancy

Lavelle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune reports that the Twins are expected to contact free agent manager Joe Maddon about their managerial vacancy, according to his sources. Former Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was fired at the end of September.

Aside from Maddon, Neal writes that Paul Molitor, Doug Mientkiewicz, and Torey Lovullo are the other three left in the running. Mientkiewicz had a second interview; Lovullo has not, at least not yet.

Maddon opted out of the final year of his contract with the Rays earlier today. Maddon was given the option to opt out if Andrew Friedman left the Rays — which he did — but Maddon didn’t know about it until the Rays told him according to Tyler Kepner of the New York Times.
