Right-hander Josh Stinson has agreed to a minor-league contract with the Pirates after being dropped from the Orioles’ 40-man roster. He’ll get an invite to spring training.
Stinson has had brief looks in the majors with the Orioles, Brewers, and Mets, combining to throw 52 innings with a 4.47 ERA in parts of four seasons.
At age 26 his upside is limited and his track record as a starting pitcher in the majors is underwhelming, but he could stick as a middle reliever if given a chance. He’s averaged 93 miles per hour with his fastball in the majors.
