After leaving Nationals, Bryan Minniti joins Diamondbacks as assistant general manager

After stepping down as assistant general manager of the Nationals earlier this month, Bryan Minniti has accepted the same role with the Diamondbacks.

Minniti is the latest addition to Arizona’s new-look regime. Chief baseball officer Tony La Russa hired Dave Stewart as general manager and De Jon Watson as senior vice president of baseball operations before Chip Hale was brought on board as manager. Along with today’s announcement about Minniti, the team also confirmed that they have added Mike Russell as special assistant to Watson and coordinator of pro scouting.

Minniti has been with the Nationals since 2009 and previously worked with the Pirates from 2000-2008. Some speculated that he could be a potential GM candidate with the Dodgers, but former Diamondbacks and Padres general manager Josh Byrnes is considered the likely favorite for the gig.
