Madison Bumgarner was working on a shutout in Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium until Royals catcher Salvador Perez slugged a solo home run over the left field fence with two outs on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was only the third hit of the game for the Royals, who trail the visiting Giants by a score of 7-1 heading into the top of the eighth inning.

Bumgarner’s scoreless postseason streak is over at 32 2/3 frames. He will not return for the eighth.

Kansas City starter James Shields was driven from the game in the fourth. He allowed five runs.
