Rangers GM Jon Daniels wants to re-sign Colby Lewis

Rangers starter Colby Lewis had a miserable season, leading the league with 14 losses while posting a 5.18 ERA and a 133/48 K/BB ratio in 170 1/3 innings across 29 starts. Nevertheless, Rangers GM Jon Daniels has made re-signing the right-hander a top priority, Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News reports.

The Rangers have been busy in recent times interviewing managerial candidates, eventually settling on Jeff Banister. Daniels said about negotiating with Lewis and his agent Alan Nero, “We haven’t been able to spend much time on that. We can get back to that now.”

Lewis, 35, missed significant time in both 2012 and ’13 with a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow. His fastball averaged under 89 MPH during this past season.
