Statcast: Matt Duffy scores on wild pitch in NLCS Game 2

Statcast, MLB Advanced Media’s new player tracking technology, has taken an in-depth look at some key plays from the postseason in recent days. It’s super cool. Here’s the latest one.

Before Kolten Wong connected for a walk-off home run to win Game 2 of the NLCS for the Cardinals last night, the Giants tied things up when Matt Duffy scored all the way from second base on a wild pitch from Trevor Rosenthal. Here’s a look at how it all went down:

I can’t get enough of these videos and look forward to what we could see with this technology in 2015. In the meantime, we have a heck of a series on our hands here. With the NLCS tied at one game apiece, Game 3 will be played tomorrow at 4:07 p.m. ET back in San Francisco. John Lackey will pitch for the Cardinals and Tim Hudson will start for the home Giants.

The Angels announced on Wednesday that the club claimed reliever Jacob Rhame off waivers from the Mets.

Rhame, 27, was limited to 6 1/3 innings in the majors and 20 2/3 innings in the minors last season due to an elbow issue. He underwent ulnar nerve transposition surgery in mid-August.

Though Rhame has a career 6.23 ERA in the big leagues, he showed promise at Triple-A from 2016-18, averaging better than 10 strikeouts per nine innings in all three years. The Angels are taking a flier on the right-hander to see if he can translate that success to the majors.
