Yankees interested in re-signing free agent Chase Headley

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com the Yankees are interested in re-signing free agent third baseman Chase Headley, which is noteworthy because just last week manager Joe Girardi indicated that he expects Alex Rodriguez to resume starting at third base next season.

Headley played well for the Yankees after coming over in a July 22 trade from the Padres, hitting .262 with six homers and a .768 OPS in 58 games, but he’s been unable to rediscover the power he showed while hitting 31 homers and leading the league in RBIs in 2012.

Rodriguez could always shift to designated hitter, but the Yankees have a lot of older players on the roster who could also use at least occasional time at DH. For instance, Carlos Beltran spent most of this year at DH because elbow problems limited his ability to play right field.
