James Shields will start Game 1 of the ALCS for the Royals

By sweeping the Angels the Royals gave themselves enough days off to align their rotation for the ALCS and manager Ned Yost announced that James Shields will get the Game 1 start.

Shields started the Wild Card Game against the A’s, allowing four runs in five innings, and then tossed six innings of two-run ball against the Angels in Game 3 of the ALDS.

Despite his “Big Game” nickname Shields hasn’t actually been all that effective in the playoffs, going 3-4 with a 4.96 ERA in eight starts, but he’s the no-brainer pick to kick off the ALCS.
