Cardinals not expecting Yadier Molina to be punished for pushing umpire Jerry Meals

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina was livid with Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez when the benches cleared in Game 1 of the NLDS on Friday night. Starter Adam Wainwright had hit outfielder Yasiel Puig with a pitch, which upset the slugger, which then upset teammate Gonzalez, who in turn upset Molina.

Home plate umpire Jerry Meals attempted to split up Gonzalez and Molina, who were yelling face-to-face. Molina shoved Meals out of the way to continue the confrontation, which is a big no-no. Typically, players who push umpires receive at least a fine and sometimes a suspension.

Here’s what happened:

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals don’t expect¬†Molina to be punished for pushing Meals. Though a fine wouldn’t be shocking, a suspension would be given how much of a ripple effect it would have on the outcome of the NLDS.
