Tigers remove Rajai Davis from Game 2 with groin injury

Rajai Davis was questionable to make the Tigers’ playoff roster because of a groin injury. He ended up starting each of the first two games of the ALDS, but was clearly playing at less than full strength while limping around.

Davis looked particularly rough after lining a ball into the left field corner in the third inning this afternoon and when one of the majors’ fastest players made it only to first base on the hit the Tigers decided they’d seen enough.

Manager Brad Ausmus pulled Davis from the game, replacing him in center field with Ezequiel Carrera.

Detroit could remove Davis from the roster and replace him with another player for the remainder of the ALDS, but that would mean he’d also be ineligible to return until the World Series.
