Salvador Perez remains in ALDS Game 2 after taking a backswing to the head

Royals catcher Salvador Perez was whacked in the head with¬†Josh Hamilton’s backswing after the Angels outfielder swung and missed at a Yordano Ventura offering in the bottom of the fifth inning. Perez, whose mask was jarred off, immediately slumped over on the ground, grabbing at his head and grimacing.

Perez was tended to by a Royals trainer and was given the “follow the finger” test, ultimately staying in the game. Hamilton ended the inning by lining out to right field, as the Royals maintained their 1-0 lead in Game 2 of the ALDS.
