Twins third baseman Trevor Plouffe saw his season come to an end last Wednesday he suffered a fractured left forearm and Tyler Mason of FOX Sports North reports that he underwent surgery today.
Plouffe was told by one doctor last week that surgery wasn’t necessary, so he presumably decided otherwise after going for a second opinion. Either way, Twins general manager Terry Ryan said today that he’s expected to be ready for spring training.
Plouffe hasn’t built off the power breakout he had in 2012, but he still batted .258/.328/.423 with 14 home runs and 80 RBI this season while providing solid defense at third base. His 110 OPS+ puts in perspective his production in the current offensive climate.
