Reds beat Pirates behind Johnny Cueto, hand National League Central title to St. Louis

The Cardinals are your 2014 NL Central champs.

Johnny Cueto delivered eight innings of one-run ball and smacked a go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the eighth as the Reds defeated the Pirates 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park, ousting Pittsburgh from the division race while allowing St. Louis to scratch ace right-hander Adam Wainwright from his scheduled start in Arizona.

The Cards also removed a bunch of regulars from their starting lineup for the 4:05 p.m. ET game at Chase Field. That includes outfielder Matt Holliday, who has been bothered this weekend by flu-like symptoms.

St. Louis will face the Dodgers in the NLDS. It’ll be Wainwright vs. Clayton Kershaw in Game 1 on Friday.
