Angels starter Matt Shoemaker threw a bullpen on Sunday afternoon and said he “felt great”. Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times writes that it’s the “strongest indication yet” that Shoemaker will be able to start for the Angels in the ALDS (likely Game 3) against the winner of the AL Wild Card game between the Royals and Athletics.
Shoemaker has been on the shelf since September 16 with a strained left oblique. He was in the midst of a fantastic season for the Angels, going 16-4 with a 3.04 ERA and a 124/24 K/BB ratio over 136 innings across 20 starts and seven relief appearances.
If Shoemaker is unable to start in the ALDS, Cory Rasmus would be under consideration for a Game 3 start.
