Juan Lagares won’t return to play again this season

Mets center fielder Juan Lagares has been out since September 15 with a hyper-extended right elbow and the team announced that he’ll miss the remaining week of the season.

That means Lagares finishes his sophomore season hitting .283 with four homers and a .706 OPS in 115 games, which along with spectacular defense makes him one of the 10 most valuable all-around center fielders in baseball according to Wins Above Replacement.

Lagares’ strike-zone control definitely needs work, as he posted an ugly 87/20 K/BB ratio this season after a similar 96/20 mark last year, but when you’re as good as he is defensively you don’t need to hit a ton to have big value. At age 25 he’s definitely a keeper for the Mets.
