Juan Lagares may not return to finish out the regular season

ESPN New York’s Adam Rubin reports that Mets outfielder Juan Lagares did not travel with the team to Atlanta for a series against the Braves, and he’s not expected to join them for their trip to Washington, D.C. for a series with the Nationals in the middle of next week, either.

Lagares left Tuesday’s game against the Marlins after five innings with a sprained right elbow. Manager Terry Collins said there’s a chance his center fielder could return for the last series of the season at home against the Astros, but team doctors would have to sign off beforehand.

Lagares has played Gold Glove-caliber defense while hitting .281/.321/.382 with four home runs, 47 RBI, and 13 stolen bases in 452 plate appearances.
