Giancarlo Stanton suffered facial fractures and dental damage when he was hit in the face by a fastball from Brewers right-hander Mike Fiers last Thursday. We saw some graphic before-and-after pictures earlier this week, but the Marlins’ slugger met with the media tonight at Marlins Park in Miami to provide a full update on his recovery.
Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald and Joe Frisaro of MLB.com were on the scene and shared the following tidbits:
The Marlins confirmed the obvious yesterday by announcing that Stanton will miss the rest of the year. While the 24-year-old will end up missing the final 17 games of the season, he still has a legitimate shot at the National League MVP Award after batting .288/.395/.555 with 37 home runs and 105 RBI.
