Danny Duffy not expected to rejoin Royals’ rotation until next Monday

Danny Duffy was hoping to rejoin the Royals’ rotation tomorrow against the White Sox, but Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star writes that he’s not expected to return until next Monday against the Indians.

Duffy gave the Royals a scare when he was forced to exit a start against the Yankees on September 6 after just one pitch. Fortunately, an MRI revealed only rotator cuff inflammation and he’s back to full health now. Still, the Royals will have him throw a simulated game tomorrow while Liam Hendriks will start against the White Sox. Jeremy Guthrie, Jason Vargas, and James Shields are already lined up to pitch in a big series against the Tigers this weekend, so Duffy’s return will be pushed back to next week.

Duffy has been a key part of the Royals’ rotation this season, posting a 2.42 ERA and 108/50 K/BB ratio over 141 1/3 innings.
