Ian Desmond notches a third consecutive 20/20 season

With Ian Demsond’s fourth-inning steal of third base, the Nationals shortstop secured his third consecutive 20/20 season. He is only the fourth full-time shortstop to accrue at least three 20/20 seasons, joining Hanley Ramirez (four), Jimmy Rollins (four), and Alex Rodriguez (three; he had three others as a third baseman). Rollins is the only player to not compile all of his 20/20 seasons consecutively.

Along with Desmond’s 22 home runs and 20 stolen bases, he has knocked in 86 runs and entered the night with a .250/.307/.415 slash line. While the slash line doesn’t jump out at you, it’s better than the .250/.306/.362 positional average.
