Evan Gattis expected back from strep throat this weekend

Braves catcher Evan Gattis is far enough along in his recovery from step throat that he’s hanging out in the clubhouse today and David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that he’s “expected” to serve as the designated hitter during this weekend’s series against the Rangers.

Tonight will be the third straight missed game for Gattis and the Braves have tomorrow off on the schedule. He’s slumped in the second half, at least compared to his excellent first half, but Gattis’ overall numbers include 22 homers in 102 games and a 60-point increase in OPS compared to his rookie season.
